To flights that lasted longer than six hours. Although some doctors will evenĀ  tell you there is an increased risk with flights lasting longer than four hours.

Department of Health andĀ  the World Health Organization still state that prolonged immobility during travel increases your risk for DVT. (Deep Venous thrombosis) is the formation of a blood clot in a vein that is deep inside a part of the body, usually the legs.

This is why travelers are encouraged to get up and move around at least once every hour. There are some simple and inexpensive ways to be preventive:

* Wear compression socks or stocking- it helps increase circulation in legs and feet during the flight.

*Avoid wearing short, tight socks or crossing your legs for long periods- cuts off blood flow in deep arteries & veins.

*Wear loose clothing.

* Drink plenty of fluids and electrolytes.

* Avoid dehydrating fluids, like coffee and alcohol- dehydration causes blood to thicken and vessels to narrow.

On your next flight, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, leave the sleeping pills at home and most important, move around as much as possible during your flight!
